Membership FAQ

Membership eligibility

Yes! The CLOC Membership community is open to the entire legal ecosystem. CLOC’s memberships generally fall in two categories: Legal ops professional –in-house legal department professionals or professionals in direct legal operational roles for any type of organization. Legal solutions provider – professionals who do not provide legal operations services directly to their employer, but sell, market, or otherwise provide technology, legal services or consultancy for legal functions. Roles include consultants, law firm lawyers, and technology.

Yes! CLOC will accept new applications for applicants who have been employed within the last 18 months. CLOC membership will be determined based on your most recent role. In those instances where a current member is transitioning from one employer to another, the member will continue to qualify in their category for an initial period of twelve (12) months.

Yes! CLOC will accept renewals and new applications from retired professionals who are no longer employed, with a continuing interest in legal operations. CLOC Membership will be determined based on your most recent role. For more information, please contact info@cloc.org

Please note that any employment, including consultancy, excludes the applicant from the retired category (in this case, the applicant will apply as an individual member).

 CLOC’s student membership is limited to full-time university undergraduate or graduate program students who are not currently employed in the legal industry. Student membership applicants must submit proof of enrollment and also disclose any employment for review.

Please note that any employment related to the legal industry, including consultancy, excludes the applicant from the student category. In this case, the applicant will apply as an individual member.

Membership application and payment

During the sign-up process, you will be asked to complete payment with your application. Dues can be paid via credit card, wire transfer, check, or by a third party.

CLOC offers a full refund of membership dues if cancelled within the first week of the membership being activated. Please contact us with any questions.

All memberships are on a 12-month cycle, renewing on the anniversary of membership approval.

CLOC Membership is offered on an individual basis, but organizations with multiple team members can take advantage of our group packages and receive discounts. Group member information can be found on this page.

We review every membership application. Please allow up to 2 business days for new member applications to be processed and approved.

Membership application and payment

You will receive an invoice 30 days prior to renewal. You have an option to set up secure auto-pay by credit card through your Member Compass.

The Member Compass allows you to view and pay for open invoices, update the contact information on your profile, view event registrations, and more!  

Please note that company changes will need to be approved by a staff member – contact us by sending an email to info@cloc.org.

CLOC membership purchased by a standalone individual is non-transferable. Within group memberships, if someone changes positions or leaves the company, membership can be transferred to another person within the same department. Please contact us for assistance with this process.
